Car Accidents with Hybrid Vehicles
Hybrid vehicles promise better fuel mileage and a reduced carbon footprint, making them a favorite among commuters and environmentally minded people alike. Driving any motor vehicle puts drivers at risk for being injured in a car accident in Missouri or in any state. However, hybrid and all-electric vehicles present an entirely new set of dangers to people who take them for granted as normal cars.
Normal cars make noise, from the engine revving to the rotating belts. Hybrid and electric cars use motors that work almost entirely on silent engines and only use electricity at slow speeds. While this is a great technological achievement, it presents dangers to pedestrians and other drivers.
Pedestrians face the most risk when they encounter a hybrid vehicle. Because these cars make little or no noise, pedestrians can step out into the street without knowing that there is a hybrid vehicle coming towards them. The blind or vision impaired are especially at risk here, because they have no way of knowing if an electric vehicle is coming at them.
If you are a driver of an electric or hybrid car, you need to pay special attention to your surroundings when travelling at slow speeds to protect yourself and those around you. The quiet motors are impressive, but can be dangerous in the right circumstances.
